The "World's Most Memorable Poster"
Competition was created to increase the awareness of the importance of
poster art and its stimulating influence on the public. Urban Art International,
together with UNESCO, invite you to participate in the "13th Annual World's Most
Memorable Poster Competition."
Each year the award is given to a poster that is concise in its expression,
joyful in its spirit of synthesis and beauty. The poster presents a message
that attract and motivates the viewer instantly while providing a strong image
that lasts. By recognizing the best of poster art, we promote a design medium
that not only brings life to public places, but provides fine work that
is accessible to everyone.
Urban
Art International, is responsible for running and judging the American
entries of the Competition. UAI will select fifteen to twenty posters by United States
artists to become part of the Annual International Exhibit.
The US winning posters are included in the best posters from 40 countries, over 600 in all,
which are sent to Paris to compete in the World Competition. In Paris an international
jury will select the "World's Most Memorable Poster 1998." The jury will also select
approximately seventy posters from the full show to become part of the 1998 International
Traveling Exhibit that will tour the world.

Fani Hansen, President of International Programs for Urban Art International, states,"Being an architect and urban designer, I believe strongly in promoting urban art in all its forms." Hansen continues, "As the interest in urban art is increasing, the international event has been divided into two sections. Section I for the posters, and Section II the Congress of the Mayors, which promotes urban renewal, embracing the use of architecture, color, lighting, sculpture, fountains, landscaping and photography as powerful tools for preventing urban decay and crime. Everyone is encouraged to take an interest in the urban environment and open their eyes to the potential rewards of urban renewal."
